Description

We'll Meet Again is often associated with the Second World War, and not without reason. The title means We will see each other again, which refers to the mobilization and departure of the soldiers to the front. The soldiers' families don't know when they will return - whether they will even return, or whether they will meet again in heaven. The best-known version of the song is by Forces Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn, but it has also been covered by: others The Byrds, Rod Stewart and Johnny Cash. Vera Lynn was also the leading actress in the 1943 film of the same name (We'll Meet Again), in which the song could of course be heard. The song has been used more often in films and television series such as Dr. Strangelove, The Singing Detective and more recently Stranger Things. We ll Meet Again has long been one of the favorites as funeral music. It is still highly ranked in the Funeral Top 50. Nowadays the song is often played on Liberation Day (May 5) and various liberation festivals. It is also the traditional closing music of the annual liberation concert on the Amstel in Amsterdam. To the tune of this piece of music, the king sails away from the concert location at the end of the concert. The bass part is written for a 5-string bass, but if the electric bassist plays on a 4-string bass, he/she can of course always octave parts! The drum part can certainly be interpreted as a big band part, with a more ad. lib. implementation. Have fun and success!
