Frédéric Macarez is one of the most active musicians of his generation. Through his various musical and pedagogical activities, he is very attached to the growth of percussion arts, the excellence of musical performance and the establishment of close links between all percussion actors.

First percussionist at the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneva) for six years and then at the Orchestre de Paris for 7 years, he became the principal timpanist for more than twenty years.

Thus, Frédéric Macarez acquired a wonderful experience and a complete knowledge of the orchestral repertoire under the direction of prestigious conductors (Daniel Barenboïm, Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Gustavo Dudamel, Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Paavo Järvi, Armin Jordan, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Andris Nelsons, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Zubin Mehta,...). Frédéric Macarez is also a leading soloist and chamber musician. He tours the world and gives solo recitals, concertos with orchestra and chamber music concerts with renowned musicians such as Christoph Eschenbach, Tzimon Barto, Martha Argerich, Marie-Josèphe Jude, Alexandre Rabinovitch, Jesse Levine, Li Biao and with the Paris-Percu Ensemble he founded.

Frédéric Macarez is Director of Percussion Studies at the Paris Regional Conservatory and Professor of Percussion at the IESM of Aix en Provence. He is a sought-after clinician and teacher, working with students from all over the world. In addition, Frédéric Macarez is the founder and director of the international percussion festival in Paris "PerKumania" which he directed for 13 years. He is also director of the International Competition of Percussion Instruments of the P.A.S. France in Paris and director of the competition "PerKu en Herbe" for very young musicians.

Clinician and teacher. Frédéric Macarez performs regularly in Europe, the United States, South America and Asia (Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore) and has visited the world's leading schools. He is also a member of the jury of many international competitions around the world (World Marimba Competition, Drumfest Poland, Universe Marimba Competition, IPEA Shanghai, PASIC Competition, Tchaikovsky Conservatory Moscow...). As a composer, his works are published by A. Leduc and Alfonce Production. He is also Collection Director at the publisher Gérard Billaudot. His works are now very popular and performed all over the world by students and professional artists.

Throughout his life, Frédéric Macarez was also interested in the solo repertoire of timpani. For thirty years he commissioned, composed, performed and taught the main works as a soloist for timpani. According to him, the timpani is a complete instrument like any other.

After 37 years of life of orchestral music, he now has much more time to devote himself to the different uses of timpani. His musical life is now devoted to pedagogy, the solo repertoire (solo works, concertos, chamber music) and the links between orchestral and solo repertoires.

Frédéric Macarez is a clinician and performer for Majestic, Mapex, Innovative Percussion, Evans and Sabian. [1]
