Description
In The Name of the Lord was jointly commissioned by Doug Walter and Dennis Plies. This work is a meditation on several of the names ascribed to Jesus Christ in the Holy Scriptsure. The names are arranged to reflect the earthly ministry of the Messiah.
Because all these names are names of the one Lord, this work is necessarily cast in the variation form. Between Alpha and Omega there are seven variations, symbolically portraying the number of God’s creation. The central variation is Love.
The nine variations are also three groups of three, the number of the Trinity. The variations open with the note A (the first letter of the musical alphabet) and close with G# (the last letter of the musical alphabet), this musically portraying Alpha and Omega, the first and las letters of the Greek alphabet.
The audience (or congregation) is respectfully invited to meditate during the interval of silence on the surpassing magnificence of our Lord and Saviour and His amazing love for us, particularly demonstrated by His sacrifice as The Lamb of God
