Program Notes

Excalibur was the name of King Arthur's sword. According to legend, young Arthur was the only person who could remove the sword from the stone in which it was embedded. The act of removing the sword proved that he was the chosen king. The use of chimes gives this piece a medieval flavor, conjuring images of brave knights and ancient castles.
