Program Notes

I wrote this to play in the middle of Dinicu-Heifetz's "Hora Staccato," that marimba players like to do from the violin part. Year of composition was 1967 in Cambridge, Ohio, for a performance with the Muskingum College Concert Band, Peter Salter, conductor, Charles Joseph, chairman of the music department. Most recently I played it solo on xylophone at Amherst High School in central Wisconsin, USA, George Bures, band director and Karen Dunn, choral director. A copy was purchased by the United States Marine Band in Washington, District of Columbia, and it should work well with that arrangement. I have played it at the University of Arkansas, at the University of Colorado, at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, with the Stevens Point City Band, and with the Riverview High School Band in Warsaw, Ohio, Tom Allen, director, and Donald B. Nixon, principal. I also played it with the Gillett High School Band in Wisconsin, borrowing a marimba for a day from Vicki Peterson Jenks. The late Howard S. Max helped me first copy it at Cambridge, Ohio, Junior High School where I have taught music and biology.
