This Duo Sonata was written in summer, 1980, in Rochester, New York, for a class taught by professor Samuel Adler. I was concurrently studying percussion with professor John H. Beck. Donald Jones was then the Ensemble Librarian, and he typed the score. The first performance was on a recital of trombonist Brian Martz, faculty member in the Department of Music in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, Paul Palombo, dean and Philip Marshall, chancellor. The department chairman was Charles Reichl.
