This duo for oboe and multipercussion was composed with music professor Daniel Stewart in mind. Dan is an African American oboe player who performed many times with me in the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. "Melody" here refers to both performers being able to participate in a lyrical fashion, a rather new 20th Century definition. United States Air Force Band and University of Cincinnati graduate oboist Jill C. Westeyn mentioned this piece in an article in Percussive Notes, and we became acquainted. The music is classical chamber contemporary music.
