Description

A work simply intended to explore the frame drum family of percussion instruments within in a chamber setting, Framed is an excellent change of pace piece for percussion ensembles. Appropriate for run-out concerts, tour performances, or for a “front of curtain” selection to open your percussion ensemble concert, this creative exploration of frame drum sound possibilities is entertaining for audiences and performers alike.

Review

… an excellent piece for percussionists to showcase their versatility … provides aspiring hand drummers the chance to practice and perfect their basic sounds … traditional rhythms on each of the instruments are played, overlapped, and expanded to create a texture of pulse and groove … – Justin Alexander

Performance Notes

1. The thumb stroke on pandeiro and the bass note on the tar (typically played with the ring finger) should result in a low and resonant sound.
2. The High sound on tar should be played on the very edge of the head, again typically with the ring fingers.
3. The stick used on tamborim should either be a three-pronged tambourim stick or any type of rute or bundle stick.
