Program Notes

A simple Samba arrangement designed for year 3 & 4 Wider Opportunities Classroom workshops but could be used with any group, even adults. This is designed to be memorized and delivered to pupils with no experience. Try this one first as It’s been tested over many years and is perfect for a class to learn over 4-6 weeks. The song is easy to learn and the arrangement has guidelines and words to help teachers and students to remember the rhythms.

Guidelines

Ben Garraway recommend learning the song first, as well as introducing the rhythms without the instruments. Each section is designed to be counted in with a whistle. A 3-tone Samba Whistle is a good investment and can also be used as a solo instrument by the teacher to make the performance more interesting. The Main grooves can be played as many times as you wish before the 'STOP'. Groove 2 adds an extra Tamborim part, it is great for giving the performance a little extra fun.
