Program Notes

for the 2015 ESU Music Day Percussion Section. Anxiety was written for the 2015 ESU Music Day Percussion Section. This is a day where as many as 40-50 musicians come together and perform chamber music with each other. This piece was designed for the high school students to perform for the closing concert. The piece is written to allow multiple players playing a variety of instruments on each of the mallet and percussion parts.

The composition is a programmatic work depicting the fable of Odin as he sacrifices himself on the World Tree . Odin gives up an eye and is hung on the World Tree for nine days and nine nights in order to gain knowledge of other worlds and be able to understand the runes.
