After starting to play percussion at the age of ten in the local drum band and brass band, I completed the drum A through D and percussion A through D courses at the Zeeland Music School. I then completed the BVO (Belgian Vocational Education) percussion instructor program with Krijn Smits. A few years later, I began studying for the practical diploma in brass band conducting, which I completed with Jos van der Sijde in 2000. Since 1985, I have been active as a conductor and instructor in and around Zeeland. I am a self-taught composer and regularly write commissioned works. In recent years, however, I've also been composing for other ensembles. Starting out as an autodidact in the then-traditional drum band world, I've always sought new sounds and developments. The meteoric rise of the percussion sector has encouraged me to broaden my horizons and explore new paths. To broaden my horizons, I took composition lessons with Lukas Groen, but also took singing lessons, for example, and immersed myself in a film music course. Partly because of this, I'm now regularly asked to write works for unusual ensembles. Arranging diverse repertoire for various ensembles is also a regular occurrence.
