Program Notes
Musica Boema, arranged for percussion ensemble by Jeff Moore, transforms the first movement of by Zdeněk Lukáš’s “Cantabile” into a vivid and challenging concert work. Drawing inspiration from Ralph Hardimon’s legendary 1984 percussion feature for the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, this advanced-level arrangement fuses concert and marching percussion traditions into a mesmerizing, rhythmically intricate texture.
Scored for 14–15 players, the ensemble includes a full complement of mallet keyboards, timpani, and an expanded battery section featuring a Scottish-style snare drum solo. The arrangement highlights layered polyrhythms, shifting phrase lengths, and rich dynamic interplay—qualities that make it both technically demanding and musically rewarding for mature ensembles.
