birth 18.7.1936 in Geneva, death22.7.1996 in Geneva, Prot, Geneva. Son of Léon Albert André, musician, and Marie Gabrielle Cusin. Single. Studies of oboe at the Conservatory of Geneva, then composition in Paris (with Henri Dutilleux). Self-taught percussionist, M. was a member of the St Gallen Symphony Orchestra (1957-1958), then of the Orchester de la Suisse romande (1958-1993). He founded the Instrumental Ensemble of Geneva in 1961, with the aim of developing contemporary music (forty creations), and the Geneva International Percussion Center (1974). Professor of percussion at the Conservatory of Geneva (since 1968), then of Sion (since 1977). He composed about fifty works, mainly for percussion, influenced in part by Igor Stravinsky, Arthur Honegger and Paul Hindemith, includingSongs in the Village (1981) on texts by Ramuz.[1]
