Eugene Novotney was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His self-stated influences are jazz and classical with a healthy dose of Motown rock and roll. He attended the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and continued his studies at the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign, where he was awarded the Edgar Varese Percussion Award for Outstanding Achievement.
