Upon entering Higashiotsu High School, Manato Hanaishi began taking private lessons from Professor Takeshi Yamamoto (currently a professor at Kyoto City University of Arts). A year later, he was taken over by Professor Takashi Ueno (who passed away in 2013), who was then an assistant professor at Kyoto City University of Arts, and began taking lessons from him. Although he studied classical music, he was excited by the London punk movement, and after meeting THE JAM, he played guitar and vocals in a cover band at the school festival, and helped out with drums in other bands. One day during a lesson, his teacher scolded him, saying, "You should at least listen to all of Beethoven's symphonies!!" Failed the entrance exam for Kyoto City University of Arts, Manato Hanaishi spent a year studying solfege and ear training under Asako Hayashi (who passed away in 1994), Yuko Fujika (who passed away in 2017), and Aya Maebayashi. After one year of studying, he passed the entrance exam for the Department of Percussion Instruments at the Faculty of Music at Kyoto City University of Arts. While studying classical music again, he was a member of the on-campus club "Gekidan Za Karma" (later DUMB TYPE) for about two years. He performed on stage as an actor in on-campus performances. At the same time, outside of school, he started to get interested in MODS fashion due to the influence of THE JAM, and as the drummer for the band MERSEY BEAT, he started to gig at various live houses in the Kansai region. In the early 1990s, Manato Hanaishi participated in a CD collection of computer music works by composer Shigenobu Nakamura, performed in theater pieces, and formed the children's group "Pink Cats" as part of a project by AMS Music Office. She literally engaged in a range of activities, singing, dancing, drumming, playing the marimba, and guitar. As a timbalist, he has performed at numerous live shows, including the Latino Connection at the Metro club in Kyoto. In 2000, they held a joint recital with three percussionists titled "3 MOVEMENTS" at Izumi Hall. The following year, in 2001, they formed an ensemble unit called "PUFF THE Magic Dragon" and performed two shows in the same year, "DFBUT!" and "NEXT!". In 2004 Manato Hanaishi held "MIX!", in 2005 "STANDARD PERCUSSIVE MEETING", and in 2006 "White Dreams".In the field of wind bands he has been involved in teaching and conducting many junior high schools, high schools, universities, and general groups in Kyoto and Shiga, but two groups that deserve special mention are the general band "Wind Band Hybrid" in Kyoto, and the "Osaka Gakuin University Wind Band" in Kishibe, Osaka Prefecture. Manato Hanaishi discovered his love for music through rock music, and while he admired the British music scene, he discovered the Mod genre and was greatly influenced by their fashion and lifestyle. He drives around in a Piaggio Vespa that he bought at Motorino del Vento, frequents the "P-FUNK BAR" in Gion, Kyoto to immerse himself in soul music, and is a fan of the French restaurant "BUZZ" in Umeda, reminiscent of the streets of Paris where musicians, painters, poets and artists gather.
