Description
Autumn by Andrea Venet is a medium-advanced marimba solo that develops four-mallet technique through a series of flowing, interconnected musical ideas. The solo focuses heavily on lateral stroke development, beginning with passages that combine double vertical and double lateral strokes before expanding into triple strokes and more advanced combinations. As the piece progresses, both hands take on increasingly independent roles, culminating in passages where continuous lateral motion drives the musical line. Frequent shifts between 7/8 and 9/8 meters create subtle changes in phrasing and momentum, while articulations help bring out melodic material hidden within the accompaniment patterns. The result is a study that encourages players to develop both technical precision and a smooth, connected sound across the instrument.
