commission: Bennington School of the Dance; premiere: August 1936, Bennington Vermont by the Bennington School of the Dance, Pauline Lawrence cond.. (composer's note: "This is a part of a ballet composition by Wallingford Reigger for me. All other parts (7 in all) were for piano (4 hands and percussion composed by Reigger. Part 3 was composed only for percussion by me and notated by Reigger, then incorporated in the score. The name of the entire work is 'New Dance.')
