Gone... for alto saxophone and percussion “Gone…” originally started as a commission for a dear friend. The bitter-sweet nature of this piece is evident in the title. I began to think of how certain things that we once loved can make us feel joy and pain, almost instantly switching depending on context. The piece is set up much in this way. The A theme represents a faint memory coming in and out of focus, sitting on top of the dreamy texture created by the vibraphone. As the initial thought comes into focus however, it suddenly becomes obscured, spiraling into a sweeping reminder that despite your fond memories… that which you love is forever gone.
