Michael Zak, Ph.D (State University of New York at Buffalo), is active as a composer, guitarist, and teacher in the Western NY area. His Starburst, for 3 vibraphones and marimba took 3rd place in the Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest and has been published by Keyboard Percussion Publications. He has published reviews of new music, as well as two theoretical articles on polysymmetrical harmony in 20th Century Music. The prestigious Amherst Saxophone Quartet has played his quartet written for them, As the World Passes Quickly Below Me, I Fly To My Creator. Michael's music catalog includes chamber music, solo pieces, organ music, electronic music, orchestral pieces and an opera. His music has been performed on radio and television on both coasts of the US and in Europe. As a student, his teachers included Morton Feldman and Lejaren Hiller. He has had two other pieces recorded on the CRS label, Io, for violin, clarinet and piano, and Trio for Violin Cello, and Piano.[1]
