Description
The genesis for this piece was a request from two of my students after they had attended PASIC for the first time. They had each purchased a tambourine and wanted to learn how to better play the instrument. I began writing a piece that would use many of the basic sounds possible on a tambourine and, as I am a person who loves stories, I came up with the idea of a playful competition between the two tambourine performers, each trying to "1 up" the other. Every game needs rules, and thus I came up with the idea of the third performer, a referee to keep the competition friendly. The piece is written for the sounds of the wonderful instruments my students and I purchased at that PASIC.
