Description
The idea for this book came to me after I wrote Concert Fantasies for Keyboard Percussion during the COVID-19 pandemic. It seemed to me that the idea of creating studies for percussionists using audio playback was not only crucial to the learning process but now necessary in the event of future pandemics. Of course, it was already being done by other authors especially in the drum set realm. In particular, Mark Wessel’s Fresh Approach series is a great example of using playback in the learning process, but I wanted to create a group of serious snare drum etudes with backing orchestral tracks for a more advanced student.
Most of the snare drum etudes are dedicated to either my teachers or drummer friends. You have all played a very important part of my musical and personal life and I’m forever grateful for all of you. Two of the etudes are dedicated to two of the titans of percussion education – Jacques Delécluse and Mitchell Peters. My hope is the Concert Fantasies for Snare Drum will not only be instructive for the student but also a great opportunity for performance as well.
