== Program Notes ==
Into the thick of battle: be it the battlefield or the dance floor. Without military music, the art of drumming would be unthinkable. The march, whether as a principle of order, a source of courage, a retreat order, entertainment, or dance music, is the foundation of Western drumming traditions from Napoleon via Scotland to America.

American marching bands have always fascinated me: their complex rhythms, their virtuosity, their instrumentation. This greatly appealed to me, and I wanted to compose a march myself. So, a little of this, a little of that, plus the indispensable dominant-tonic fourth, all the ingredients mixed together, seasoned with Indian rhythms, garnished with the necessary drive, and
the result is a globalized march that, while hardly suitable for marching or dancing, perfectly reflects my convictions about what a march should be and its connotations.

Another promising meaning of Something can be found with Stanley Belgrave, the bartender from Trinidad who achieved cult status in the 1940s through his excellent cocktails:

Something – Something Cocktail
2/3 Cockspur ***** Rum
1/3 French Vermouth
1 Dash Absinthe
Ice, shake and strain in cocktail glass
Add a cocktail onion<ref>https://www.amaverlag.com/produkt/something-something-fuer-pauken-und-drei-trommler-2009-16/</ref>
