Night Tide by Howard Buss is an impression of the New England coastline at night and features an evocative interplay between turbulent and serene sections.“The evening’s highlight, A stunning aural portrait of the sea’s ebb and flow.” -The Maine Sunday Telegram. This work is aalso published in a version for trombone and marimba. The following poem, written by the composer, may be used as program notes:<br />

The poem: "Night Tide"<br />
<br />
Under cover of darkness waves storm the rugged coast.<br />
Invisible crests and troughs coax reluctant rocks<br />
from their sand beds,<br />
lapping and tugging,<br />
swelling and falling.<br />
Drama unseen though felt as if time were real,<br />
patiently counting the droplets and grains pitted at odds,<br />
fragmenting one another in a marathon of spray and sand, cascades and claps:<br />
Determined adversaries with no desire to win or lose,<br />
only to battle through endless tide cycles. <br />
