			Dr. Emery E. Alford was appointed Dean of Academic Affairs at Hillsborough Community College’s Ybor City Campus in June 2001. Dr. Alford has over seventeen years experience in academic administration, twenty-five years of undergraduate and graduate-level teaching experience and over forty years experience as a professional musician in various symphony orchestras, dance bands, show & theater groups. This includes one year as an Administrative Intern to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, three years as Administrative Assistant to the Music Department Head and fourteen years as associate professor of the percussion and jazz programs at Western Kentucky University, eight and one-half years as Department Head of Humanities, Visual & Performing Arts and two years as Director of Curriculum at Broward Community College.

			Dr. Alford earned the Associate in Arts degree and Performer’s Certificate from Del Mar College, Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, Master of Music from Western Kentucky University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Oklahoma. He has performed as principal percussionist and timpanist with numerous symphony orchestras including the Symphony of the Americas, Gold Coast Opera/Symphony, Owensboro Symphony and section percussionist with the Florida Symphonic Pops, Ballet Florida, Austin (TX), Nashville (TN), and Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestras. He was also percussionist for five summer seasons at Opryland USA.

			In addition, Dr. Alford has held membership and leadership positions in the Percussive Arts Society, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, Music Educators National Conference and the American Federation of Musicians. He is a life member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. Business experiences include managing a music store in Austin, Texas, working as a clinician/consultant for high school bands and orchestras throughout the southwestern United States, participating in the financial consultant training program at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, and three years with Warner Bros. Music Publishers in Miami. Alford has written and published a number of articles, reviews, compositions and musical arrangements for percussion.

			Dr. Alford was a member of the 2003 Florida Chancellor’s Leadership Seminar class. He is active in the Tampa Bay community and was recently appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to the Board of Directors for the Arts Council of Hillsborough County.<ref>http://www.hccfl.edu/staff-info/alford-emery.aspx</ref>
