Although the drum is seldom used as a solo instrument, a solo book for drum is included in the Belwin "STUDENT INSTRUMENTAL COURSE" to give the drum student the same incentives, experiences and benefits received by students of other instruments from solo playing. Most of the solos have a piano accompaniment. For the most effective solo performance of these solos a melody instrument, if in the proper key, should play the melody with the piano accompaniment. It is especially recommended that students of mallet instruments play together with drum students. Many of these solos are also in "The Mallet Soloist", therefore the same piano accompaniment may be used.
