Description

Written for D2Drumline's National Drumline Camp Front Ensemble program in 2024, ENERGY 7: Adventures Of A Front Ensemble is my first attempt at writing a front ensemble styled percussion ensemble work, based on a set of marching-inspired mallet exercises. Although I have never marched professionally, I have learned so much about marching and front ensemble in the last few years through my content creation and touring, and the attention to detail in technique and musicality is a huge inspiration for ENERGY 7. ENERGY 7 aims to be an introductory work to the style of front ensemble performance, where there is large emphasis placed on visuals, technical ability and projection, while also replicating the usual basic front ensemble instrument lineup of mallet instruments and a drum set.

The work progresses through sections named after their respective exercises, with the exercises becoming increasingly difficult and complex, culminating in the final ENERGY 7 section, which signifies the excitement and happiness of having a group of people play together in synchronous harmony - whether it be in a marching or concert environment.

The parts are arranged in perceived difficulty, making it easy to suit any level of beginner to intermediate ensemble. The parts are also expandable, meaning you may have multiple players playing the same part if you wish to expand it beyond the 7 original parts. Finally, the exercises are also included as a separate packet for your ensemble to work on separately first before attempting the ensemble work.
