Program Notes

Commissioned in 2005 by the Iizuka Wind Orchestra, Fukuoka. Inspired by the composition of the members at the premiere, the music portrays a journey on a Galactic Railroad, traveling through stars piloted by four male and four female deities. The piece features rapid passages, grace notes, and intricate rhythms that appear in quick succession. Rather than striving for perfect synchronization, I believe the ensemble will be more enjoyable if each part is played with the freedom to sparkle independently. Please enjoy this grand journey through the galaxy.

  • For the 6th to 8th Percussion parts, please use a muted bass drum or a sound similar to a marching bass drum.
