Program Notes

Motion No. 1 by Nicholas V. Hall is a fiery duet for shared bass drum and a set of bongos. Two percussionists act as one, hocketing rhythmic snippets back and forth and splitting 32nd note clusters as the piece alternately boils and simmers. With the bass drum (or kick drum) mounted horizontally and the two performers facing one another on either side, this is sure to be a crowd pleaser and a concert highlight.
