Program Notes

Sleep Whispering is a trio for vibraphone, flutes (alto and C flute), and piano, comprised of two movements. Tempered with oriental sounding flute passages, the soft vibraphone timbre and a piano in its traditional use combined with sounds created by striking the piano strings with soft mallets, this work progresses through the stages of sleep, from its agitated beginning to a restful close.[1]

Review

“The intimate exchange between the (piano and flute) is all softly charged by the reverberations of the vibraphone, permeating the work like the brain’s sleep waves.” Lloyd Dyck, Vancouver Sun, 1974
