Program Notes
Radiantia creates a platform for the soloist to radiate the sonic energy of the different percussion instruments: from the pitched mallet instruments to the exotic Thai gongs and Turkish drum. The soloist is also asked to improvise and move around ritualistically following the traditional use of hand held instruments of different cultures. The eternal sound of human civilization is heard as a distant drum reverberates in total darkness.
Radiantia is commissioned by Huronia Symphony for percussionist Beverly Johnston with a grant from the Ontario Arts Council. (AH)
