Program Notes

Review

Presto is a percussion sextet scored for xylophone, suspended cymbal, snare drum/tom-tom (one player), bass drum and a pair of timpani. Distinctive 16th-note motives set in a contrapuntal texture create an animated sonic tapestry. The sizzling tempo (quarter note = 190-195) is sure to give a high school or advanced middle school ensemble an exhilarating performance experience. When this piece appears on the students' music stands, it should be "love at first sight." - John R. Raush[1]
