Program Notes

Premiere: November 8, 2004. Carnegie Mellon University. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Noise Peal Extravagant is based on three contrasting rhythmic patterns, which are heard simultaneously in the opening of the piece. As the work progresses, each pattern is elaborated in its own section. The piece bears the strong imprint of rock and funk music, making use of two full drum sets in its instrumentation.
