Larry Mathis is Associate Professor of Percussion. He received his M.S. and B.S. from the Juilliard School of Music. Teachers include Saul Goodman, former timpanist with the New York Philharmonic, Morris Goldenberg, staff percussionist with NBC and member of NBC Symphony, Fred Hinger, former timpanist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera, William Schinstine, former percussionist with the National, Pittsburgh, and San Antonio Symphony Orchestras. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein, City Symphony of New York, Alabama Symphony, and Tuscaloosa Symphony. He was principal percussionist and teacher at the Brevard Music Center 1988-89. He has been a University of Alabama School of Music faculty member since 1969.[1]
