Review

Victor Feldman has organized ten compositions for solo vibraphone with a self-stated three-fold purpose: (1) "to give mallet players, particularly vibraphonists, a broader repertoire of styles from which to choose when soloing"; (2) "to enable the player to practice with guitar and/or bass accompaniment since chord symbols are provided in all of the pieces"; (3) "to improve four-mallet technique and to open up the musician's ears to many voicing options on vibes and other mallet instruments that sound complete without accompaniment or use of the bass register." Of the ten compositions, nine appear to be Feldman's original works with the tenth being an excellent arrangement of"Londonderry Air." The difficulty of the individual compositions ranges from grade III to grade V. A soundsheet accompanies the collection with Victor Feldman performing all the compositions. - James Lambert, July 1984[1]
