Review

Victor Feldman is a noted West Coast vibist-pianist, who has numerous recording credits in the jazz and pop fields. His JUST A SIMPLE SAMBA, is a catchy jazz-pop tune arranged for vibes, guitar, bass, and drum set. The four-mallet vibe part is of moderate difficulty and could easily be handled by an advanced high school player. All of the parts are well written and give excellent ideas for the correct samba "feel." The second half of the tune is open for improvisation over the chord changes, so knowledge of jazz harmony and scales is a must. This is one of the best arrangements I've seen for vibes and jazz combo, and would be a delightful light piece to end a college recital. - Robert Chappell, June 1982[1]
