Jay W. Gilbert (born 2 February 1956) is Director of Bands and Chair of the Music Department at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. He conducts the concert band and oversees all aspects of the instrumental music education program. He holds degrees in music education from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he studied with John P. Paynter.

Dr. Gilbert's career as a band director began in the public schools of Wisconsin, where he taught instrumental music in elementary, middle, junior and senior high schools. Prior to his appointment at Doane, he was Assistant Director of Bands at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

He has guest conducted in Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Canada. He has also served as percussion instructor for the National High School Music Institute at Northwestern University and the Summer Music Clinic at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Gilbert is a member of MENC, the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), the National Band Association (NBA), and the College Music Society. [1]
