This 99-measure, two-mallet solo is rhythmically very challenging. The opening 7/8 motive is referenced several times in this lively allegro energico work. Dynamic control, accentual contrast, and internalization of the assymetrical meter are very important in this excellent solo for the high-school percussionist. This three-minute work would be appropriate for either a special contest situation, concert feature, or even as an audition piece for the two-mallet keyboard percussionist.
