G. Bradley Bodine (b. 1960) holds degrees from The Evergreen State College, Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Arizona. He studied music composition with Daniel Asia, Stephen Scott, Gregory Youtz and Ronald Hurst.
Dr. Bodine has received commissions to create new works for solo marimba, marimba and orchestra, concert band, marimba and flute, horn and percussion, choir with percussion duo, and marimba and percussion ensemble. The composer was recently commissioned by the American marimbist, Drew Lang, and 11 university/college percussion ensembles to write a concerto for marimba and a percussion ensemble of six percussionists.
Dr. Bodines latest work, “Kaleidoscope: A Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra”, completed in part with funds from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, will be recorded in the fall of 2007 by the internationally acclaimed Portuguese marimbist, Pedro Carneiro, with Gerard Schwarz conducting the Seattle Symphony.
Dr. Bodine received a Centrum Foundation Scholarship for Jazz Composition in 1984. He was selected by the University of Arizona faculty to represent the School of Music at the University of Arizona President's Concert in 1990. In 1991, his orchestral composition, "Dodecuple Design", secured a finalist position in the National Orchestral Association's New Music Orchestral Project. He was awarded Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Projects Grants in 2001 and 2005 and served as a panelist for the Indiana Arts Commission in 2002. G. Bradley Bodine received awards from ASCAP each year, beginning in 2002, and is listed in the 2005 edition of Marquis "Who's Who in America.
The music of G. Bradley Bodine has been performed at major music festivals and conferences throughout the United States and in Europe including the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, Yellow Barn Festival, College Band Directors National Conference, New Music and Art Festival at Bowling Green State University, Animas Music Festival, Basically Beethoven Festival (Dallas), Vienna Flute Festival, Colorado Music Educators Association Conference, Texas Music Educators Association Conference, Percussive Arts Society International Conventions (2000, 2003, 2008), International Marimba Festival and Competition (Belgium) and Pro Musica Chamber Series (Dallas) among others.
His music has been performed at major concert halls including The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center (Dallas, Texas) and the Vienna Konzerthaus (Vienna, Austria).
Dr. Bodine's music has been performed and recorded by major ensembles including the Seattle Symphony, Gerard Schwarz, conductor; Dallas Wind Symphony, Jerry Junkin, conductor; Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Paul Phillips, conductor; Texas Festival Orchestra, Edwin Outwater, conductor; and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Linda Mack, conductor. His compositions have been widely performed by virtuoso performers including Drew Lang, Helen Blackburn, Ivana Bilic, Alexa Still, Pedro Carneiro, Brian Zator, Ingrid Gordon, Berndt Thurner, Gisela Mashayekhi-Beer, Gary Cook, John Pennington, Douglas Walter, Catherine Roche-Wallace and Jeffrey Prosperie.
Dr. Bodine studied choral conducting with Wayne Hertz and Richard Sparks. Recent studies include master-classes with Paul Salamunovich, Robert Page, the internationally acclaimed vocal group Chanticleer and a choral workshop with the music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Craig Jessop. Dr. Bodine has held choral directing posts in Washington State, Arizona and Indiana. G. Bradley Bodine is the Composer in Residence at both the Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center at Purdue, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra as well as a Continuing Lecturer of music theory at Purdue University.[1]
