Review
This excellent duo for flute and a low-A marimba requires four-mallet technique throughout. An introductory theme is presented by the flute and is joined by the marimba in measure 14. The initial material for the marimba is a series of sextuplets with ostinato-type patterns written in the lower range, creating a rich texture. This section moves to a chorale- type section of four-note rolls. As the work develops the rhythmic content and range of the instrument is expanded. The dialogue between the marimba and flute will require two advanced performers. The print is in manuscript form and is extremely small, making reading across the marimba somewhat difficult.
