Description

“Fading Away” was commissioned for the Pea Ridge High School Percussion Ensemble for the 2019 Indoor Percussion Season. “Fading Away” isn’t specifically programmatic, but it does follow a certain flow of an idea. In early drafts I had it titled as “heroes journey”. So it has your typical layout. Soft start, thrown into conflict, defeat, somber reflection, regroup, face conflict again, succeed? Halfway through the writing process I landed on the idea of “fading” and tried to make different sorts of fades to happen throughout, including the eventual ending which faded away instead of ending big.
