A middle, slow section heralds the final portion of this nine-minute work, which shifts from the opening 4/4 rhythms to a very fast 6/8 section--reminiscent of Fisher Tull's ending to his "Sonatina." Although the tonality is G major, there are numerous departures from that tonal center, and Mancini's masterful clarity in compositional concept creates a single movement full of contrast and sophistication. This work is suitable for a mature college percussion quartet, and would also be suitable for a professional symphony percussion quartet. | ||
