Program Notes
Double Fanfare was a co-composed piece written by two prolific composers of percussion music. Lou Harrison is known for his use of Balinese and Javanese Gamelan elements in his music while Anthony Cirone, who had a 36 year tenure with the San Francisco Symphony, write music from a more classically based concepts. The Double Fanfare is split in to two sextet, the American Gamelan Orchestra and the Symphonic Percussion Section. Each sextet is highlighted to emphasize its percussive contribution, but will also demonstrate the others role at times in the work. The piece is piece is fantastically constructed and clearly demonstrates the differences and yet the combined beauty of each sextet as a whole.
