Do not "hold" the clave as it will deaden the resonant sound of the wood. Etymology and Alternative Spellings

Construction

Two rosewood sticks; Can be solid or hollowed. The solid style is usually no longer than 7 inches with a 1 - 1.5 inch diameter, while the hollowed style can be up to 12 inches and 2 inch diameter.
