Antoon Gruyters comes from the amateur percussion world. At the age of eight he was given the drumsticks and has never been able to let go of them since. As a soloist he attended many competitions, resulting in Brabant champion and national champion several times. As a playing member of the drum band St. Cecilia from Milheeze, he has experienced many successes at the highest level for 16 years, including three gold medals in Kerkrade. He was also a percussionist with Brass Band 'Peelland'. Antoon obtained his instructor's diploma from Krijn Smit. As an instructor at the Deurne drum fanfare, he won several national championships and gold at the W.M.C. Antoon is also active as a composer. He has fond memories, for example, of 'The Construction Workers' and 'The Wanderers of Notre Dame', written especially for carnival evenings. In front of crowded halls, the Boekel and Handel percussion groups managed to get people out of their seats, with the result that these acts could not be missed at the show sessions. According to Antoon, that is where the future of percussion groups lies, in addition to serious music, entertaining people in a fun way and ensuring that the halls are filled... because you make music together, for others.
